Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to take urgent measures to speed up the fight against fake goods and low quality products in the rest months of this year, local media reported.
Anti-counterfeit goods activities must be conducted at all stages from production and import to distribution and circulation, the cabinet leader said in his dispatch issued September 8.
The Central Steering Committee for Anti-Trafficking, Counterfeit Goods and Trade Fraud (Committee 127/TW) has been asked to outline an inspection plan in the remaining months of the year to strictly and timely deal with fake fertilizer, pesticides, animal feeds and medicines.
The PM has also assigned the Ministry of Police to focus on investigating and discovering organizations and individuals involved in producing, processing, importing, trading and possessing fake products.
Ministers, chairs of the municipal and provincial People’s Committees and leaders of the inspection bodies will take responsibility for the presence of counterfeits and bad quality products, he noted.
Market watchdogs across Vietnam discovered around 130,787 trade frauds in 2007, said the Committee 127/TW, adding that cigarettes, wines, mobile phones, medicines, cloth and precious metals were among the key illegally imported goods while coal, wild animals, ore and petroleum were the main illicit exports during the time.
