Vietnam’s commercial electricity output is forecast to reach 77.07 billion kWh in 2009, a rise of 14.52 per cent against this year, the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) said.
Of the country’s total power volume of 86.67 billion kWh next year, EVN is expected to produce 57.44 billion kWh and the rest of 29.23 billion kWh will be mobilized from local and foreign sources, the group said.
The country's power consumption is estimated to hit over 41 billion kWh in the dry season of that year, and over 87 billion kWh for the whole year 2009.
EVN has recently been requested to mobilize all its resources in an effort to add over 3,000 MW of power to the national electricity system, bringing Vietnam's total power generation capacity to about 18,000 MW in 2009.
Northern Vietnam is forecast to face a severe power shortage of 200 million kWh in the dry season next year.
Vietnam is forecast to lack 8.6 billion kWh of power this year and the country’s power lack will peak at 10.3 billion kWh in 2009. (Investment)
