Asian officials gathered at the 7th annual conference of the Council for Promotion of Tourism in Asia (CPTA) which opened in the capital city of Vietnam October 5 to seek ways to develop the regional tourism network, state media has said.
The event saw the participation of member representatives from Hanoi, Bangkok, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, New Delhi, Jakarta and Seoul.
During the six-day event, delegates will review regional cooperation in tourism development over the last year and reach agreement on new tourism projects.
They will also discuss marketing strategies in order to attract tourists to Asian cities, including Hanoi.
The conference is expected to admit new members and issue a joint declaration.
Last year, Asia and Europe welcomed 828.7 million foreign arrivals, accounting for over 92 per cent of the world’s total, the World Tourism Organization reported.
The Asian-Pacific region recorded the highest growth rate in the number of foreign arrivals at 10 per cent against the world average of 4 per cent. The rate in Vietnam reached over 17 per cent. (The People)
