Jan-Oct Coal Export Down 30.1 per cent On-year in Volume

Vietnam reportedly exports an estimate of 18.4 million tons of coal, valued at US$1.28 billion in the first ten months this year, down 30.1 per cent on-year in volume but up 57.4 per cent in value, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
 
Of the total, October accounts for 1.3 million tons worth US$130 million, the office reported.
 
The Tin Tuc newspaper reported, citing the Finance Ministry as saying that prices of coal supplied for three main consumers, namely fertilizer, cement and paper producers, may be raised by 20 per cent-60 per cent from now to the end of this year.
 
Meanwhile, prices of coal supplied for electricity producers are temporarily kept stable in the rest of 2008.
 
Vietnam’s top miner Vinacomin said it needs over VND224 trillion VND (US$13.57 billion) for development between now and 2025, including VND85.5 trillion for the initial 2008-2015 phase. (GSO Oct 2008)
