Vietnam Sees Jan-Oct CPI Jump by 23.15 per cent On Year

Consumer price index of Vietnam is estimated to have increased 23.15 per cent on year between Jan and Oct this year and dropped by 0.19 per cent on month in Oct, thanks to gasoline prices cuts by the government of Vietnam, the government-run General Statistics Office said on October 27.
 
Between Jan and Oct, prices of food, foodstuff and related services which account for 42.85 per cent of the basket of goods for CPI calculation jumped by 36.95 per cent from a year ago, but were down 0.42 per cent on month for the first time, GSO showed.
 
In Jan-Oct, prices of food and foodstuff are estimated to have soared 49.58 per cent and 33.05 per cent, respectively, on year. In Oct, prices of food have dropped by 1.91 per cent on month, but still up 60.06 per cent on year, meanwhile, prices of foodstuff eased at 01 per cent on month, but 32.82 per cent on year, GSO said.
 
In Oct, housing and construction materials deflated by 1.08 per cent on month, but up 22.84 per cent on year. Costs of transport and communication services also slid 0.94 per cent on month, but up 24.82 per cent on year, GSO added.

Beverage, cigarettes, garment, footwear, domestic appliances, pharmaceutical, educational products soared 4 per cent to 7 per cent, GSO said.
 
In the first ten months, prices of gold soared 37.43 per cent on year and U.S. dollar appreciated 1.71 per cent.
