Vietnam will produce about 43.5 million tons of coal next year, including 24 million tons for the domestic demand and 19-20 million tons for export, the Industry & Trade Magazine reported.
Coal supplied for electricity production will increase by 2.5 million tons on-year, for cement industry by 1.2 million tons and for other industries by 3 per cent on-year, the magazine said.
According to Vietnam’s top miner Vinacomin, the country will need 6.48 million tons of coal for electricity production in 2008.
Currently, the domestic coal output is 40 million tons per year with 50 per cent for domestic demand and the rest for export.
Under Vietnam’s coal industry development strategy until 2015, a vision to 2025 approved by the prime minister recently, the nation is targeting to produce between 48 million and 50 million tons of clean coal in 2010, 60 million-65 million tons in 2015, 70 million-75 million in 2020 and 80 million tons in 2025.
