The petroleum importing country of Vietnam is estimated to need around 14 millions tons of the products next year, up 7.69 per cent on year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The nation is expected to produce 2.7 million-3 million tons of petroleum products in 2009 thanks to the operation of its first oil refinery Dung Quat scheduled in February of that year, the ministry attributed.
The Southeast Asian country is forecast to import around 12.2 million tons of the products in 2009, of which one million will be re-exported and the rest of 11.2 million tons will serve domestic demand.
Without oil refineries, Vietnam now has to import almost petroleum products. It is forecast to have spent US$10.25 billion importing 11.05 million metric tons of petroleum products in the first nine months this year, up 71.1 per cent on year and 5.3 per cent, respectively, respectively, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).
