Vietnam will spend some US$3.1 billion importing 1.8 million tons of plastic materials this year, the Nguoi Lao Dong online reported.
At present, the plastics industry is still encountering big difficulties as it has to import 100 per cent of materials for production, the paper said.
In the first nine months, Vietnam imported 1.31 million tons of plastics worth US$2.32 billion, up 14 per cent on-year in volume and 35.6 per cent on-year in value.
Meanwhile, it earned US$674 million from exports of plastic products in the period, up 33.8 per cent on-year. The figure is expected to hit US$1 billion for the whole year.
Vietnam is exporting its plastic products to 48 countries and territories worldwide, including the U.S., Japan, Germany, Britain and Cambodia. (Labourer)
