A kind face, bright eyes and a fervid smile are the clear characteristics of Labour Hero and Doctor Pham Thi Viet Nga, General Director of Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (DHG), people say.
In 1986, she was named the director of Can Tho Medical Material Supply Company. But, her career primed when she was nominated the director of Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Enterprise in 1988. When she started the work at the enterprise, she found a number of problems needed to be tackled immediately: unstable production, narrow market, low productivity and unstable employment for the labourers. In the market economy, these weaknesses meant bankruptcy.
Before such challenges, the returned soldier was determined to lead the company to prosperity. With continuous investment for production expansion, technological renovation, governance improvement and marketing strategies, she led Hau Giang Pharmaceuticals (DHG) to its prime time. From only 25 products in 1989, her company now manufactures more than 200 products. The production value reaches thousands of billons of Vietnamese dong. From borrowed capital, DHG not only settled all debuts but also invested to expand production. Laboratories and research centres are built with international standards and factories are built under the GMP-WHO standard accredited by the Vietnam Drug Administration. Last but not least, DHG has occupied 10 per cent of the market share in Vietnam, the largest for a single drug maker.
In 2006, DHG was listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) and its shares were valued very high by investors and financiers. Since then, DHG became a “top pick” on the stock market and had a high liquidity on the Vietnamese stock market. In 2008, she decided to bring DHG to a new high by transforming it to a group called DHG Pharma Group, which consists of a number of affiliated and associated companies. DHG Pharma is a multi-sector company oriented toward “a healthier life” policy.
At present, DHG Pharma has six affiliated companies and 47 branches and agents stretching along the Vietnamese territory to serve more than 20,000 loyal customers.
With quality products in addition to tight governance, cost saving, reasonable price and customer care service, DHG medicines have won the trust of hospitals and drugstores in Vietnam. In 12 consecutive years, DHG won the “Vietnamese High Quality Goods” title. At present, DHG Pharma has reached the international market, which imports 77 product categories of the company.
To ensure the sustainable development, Director Viet Nga pays high attention to human resource training, especially managers. She always reminds of the traditional education and corporate culture fostering for all employees. She is always the mirror in all activities. In spite of spending most of the time for handling housework and social responsibility, she never neglects to foster her knowledge and improve her professional and governance level. Although she successfully defended her doctorate in 2003, she still spent time for MBA course organised by Belgium and Vietnam High Quality Goods Club in Ho Chi Minh City. She defined that scientific research and innovation are the drivers for development. These activities have created more than 100 new products for the market.
In addition to business front, she and DHG Pharma workforce actively take part in social and community development activities like thanksgiving campaigns, charity programmes, community development and others. With her heart and love for work, she led DHG from a troubled company to a Labour Hero in the renovation process.
