Foreign investors, although having been net sellers of Vietnamese bonds over the past months, have not withdrawn capital out of the market but they have been restructuring their bond investment portfolio, the Securities Investment newspaper reported citing a senior official of HASTC.

Foreigners have sold short-term bonds (of two-year and three-year terms) or bonds which will mature during 2009 and 2012, and bought into 15-year bonds, said Nguyen Thi Hoang Lan, deputy director of the Hanoi Securities Trading Center.

In Oct, they sold out VND25 trillion (US$1.5 billion) of bonds and bought in VND11 trillion bond (US$666.7 million), Lan said. Statistics by the HASTC showed that foreigners were still net sellers of VND2.5 trillion worth of 65.7 million bonds in the first week of November.

However, Lan noted that the repossessed bonds sold by foreign investors accounted for a small amount of the total bonds traded.

In recent several trading sessions in the local stock market after the U.S. president election day, foreigners have turned back to bargain in Vietnamese shares. (Securities Investment)
