The World Bank and the State Bank of Vietnam Nov 10 signed a credit agreement to fund US$170 million for Vietnam to develop waterway transport networks running through 14 northern provinces, state media said.
The project slated for from May of 2009 to June of 2012 will aim at upgrading, expanding waterway networks linking Quang Ninh, Haiphong, Pha Lai, Hanoi, Viet Tri; Hanoi to the East Sea, inland waterway route connecting Day-Ninh Co rivers to receive 1,000-3,000 ton ships, the Labor newspaper said.
Twenty ferries will be built and upgraded.
Vietnam will contribute US$30 million in reciprocal capital. (Labor, Saigon Liberation)
