Under the theme “Unite - Integration – Developing together”, the first small and medium enterprise (SME) national week 2008 will be held in Hanoi, HCM City and other localities from November 17- 21.
The event will be held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ministries of Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, Finance and other relevant agencies, Ocean Group and the Vietnam Association of Small & Medium Enterprises.
The week aims at continuous supporting Vietnamese SMEs in the context of globalization and integration into the world economy of Vietnam is gaining remarkable atonements; building a playground for them, law makers and relevant agencies to share experience as well as answer their wonders about issues related to investment and trade and then based on their ideas and suggestions to perfect the legal framework; displaying SMEs products and services; improving human resources skills through exchanges and training courses.
Hoang Van Dung - Standing Vice Chairman of VCCI, said, activities of the week includes a SME forum (in Hanoi on November 18 at the National Convention Centre; in Ho Chi Minh City on November 20 at the Independence Palace), a SME exhibition from November 17 – 21 at the National Convention Centre; a television talks in Hanoi on November 18 (broadcasting on VTV1 and Info TV channels); and some seminars, dialogue from November 17 – 21 to be held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other cities nationwide. The activities will bring SMEs a chance to boost cooperation with other domestic and foreign enterprises.
Currently, Vietnam has around 300,000 enterprises, in which 96.5% are small and medium ones, contributing annually 40% of the country’s GDP and creating jobs for a half of all nation employees. They also contribute 17.46 percent to the State budget annually.
