Light Industry Gains Strong Growth Rate

Over the past years, the light industry of central Quang Nam province has gained fruitful achievements, ranking third in central coastal-Central Highlands regions in terms of industrial production values. This is the significant result to the province.
Since 2001, the local light industry has developed rapidly and stably with diversification of jobs and scales. The light industry reports an annual growth of 25.8 per cent on average. Statistics showed that, in the first year when the province was reestablished, industrial production values hit only nearly VND542 billion. By the end of 2007, the figure reached over VND5.26 trillion, up four times compared to that of 2001. Industrial production has been more diversified to meet export and local consumption demands. Exports and imports have also increased. In 2001, the province reported export turnovers of nearly US$32.1 million. The figure reached over US$180.9 million in 2007, some six times higher than 2001; import values of the province hit US$28.575 million in 2001. The figure reached US$219.878 million in 2007, up more than 7 times compared to 2001. Light industries have made great contributions to the results and laid good foundation for development of other sectors including garment and textile, footwear, woodwork processing, automobile manufacture, construction material production...  
 
In 2007, garment sector reported growth of more than six times than 2001; textile sector, three times; beverage, 3.7 times; footwear, more than 14 times; woodwork processing, 5.2 times; paper production, nearly 12 times, non-metal production, 3 times; metal-made-of products, nearly 1.4 times; automobile manufacture, more than 100 times…. To date, the sectors have gained foothold in the US, EU, China, ASEAN member nations (Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia), South Korea, Japan; and are looking to new markets such as Germany, Slovakia, the US, Maroco, Uruguay. Realising the advantages, the province has given favours to development of private sector, encouraged private enterprises to invest more in technology application in production assembly to raise quality.  
 
Over the past years, development of the industries have created more jobs for local people and raised income for them. Thanks to good trade promotion, Quang Nam has gained considerable economic achievements, including boosting export activities, expanding business activities in the local market as well as foreign markets. The province has organised many activities such as trade fairs, market surveys, conferences, Marketing training courses, market information update, conference on trade & investment laws for local businesses.
 
Through market surveys and trade fairs, and trade promotion activities, local businesses have better got access to market information, market demands, trade laws, and learn experience in trademark building and development. Local businesses have specified their development orientation in which Hanoi, northern provinces and HCM City are their key markets for dried seafood, fine arts products including pottery, lanterns, brocade products, and souvenirs....; China is the province’s key market for cashew, cassava starch, cinnamon, seafood, fine arts; and Laos and Thailand especially Laos and Northeast Thailand are the province’s potential markets for garment and textile, fine arts, and seafood, as the markets are far from the sea.
