H.E. Mitsuo Sakaba, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, and Dr. Vu Tien Loc, President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), paid a joint working visit to Thai Binh province on August 27, 2009. They held a working session with Chairman of Thai Binh People’s Committee, Nguyen Hanh Phuc. After exchanging and listening to investment potentialities and industrious tradition of Thai Binh people, the two leaders toured several selected locations in the province.
Investment into education
VCCI President Vu Tien Loc, Ambassador Mitsuo Sakaba and Thai Binh People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Hanh Phuc cut the inaugural ribbon to open Thuy Thanh Secondary School in Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province. The Government of Japan granted a non-refundable aid of VND1.4 billion and the authorities of Thai Binh province and Thai Thuy district contributed VND1.1 billion to construct the two-storey 10-classroom school, which will serve students in Thuy Thanh commune.
Mr Bui Minh Dai, Principal of Thuy Thanh Secondary School, said: Thuy Thanh is a poor commune but it is very famous for diligent tradition. The school always had to serve 300 - 400 pupils but the capacity was limited. The old school had only five seriously downgraded classrooms and two temporary classrooms. The school had to use houses of local residents and offices of local authorities as classrooms for its students. The poor infrastructure, resulted from limited budget for education, seriously impacted the training quality and learning result. The new school is believed to give a boost the education in the commune.
Opportunities to develop
VCCI President Vu Tien Loc, Thai Binh People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Hanh Phuc and Ambassador Mitsuo Sakaba also paid a visit to Thuy Phong commune, Thai Thuy district. Delivering a speech to communal authorities, the ambassador expressed his luck to know living conditions and investment opportunities in Thai Binh. Although Thai Binh has many poor communes and districts, with its diligent tradition and favourable location, the province has many opportunities to attract investment capital for development. As a Japanese ambassador to Vietnam, he will introduce investment advantages and opportunities in Thai Binh to Japanese companies. He expressed his wish to be a bridge to link Japanese businesses with Thai Binh in particular and with Vietnam in general.
VCCI President Vu Tien Loc exchanged and proposed leaders of the province to advance public administration reform and to create a friendly and favourable investment climate to attract investors in general and Japanese in particular.
Thai Binh People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Hanh Phuc led the visitors to visit underway industrial parks in the province and pledged to create all favourable conditions to attract investors to Thai Binh.
At the farewell, the ambassador informed of signing a contract with Thai Binh People's Committee next month to finance US$200 million to a thermal power plant project in the province. This is a Japan's ODA-funded energy project in Vietnam.
