Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark: Strength of Ha Giang Tourism

There are 77 geological parks in the world recognized by UNESCO, among which is Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark of Vietnam. Spreading across the four districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac of Ha Giang province, Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark is considered the character and strength for the tourism sector of the northern mountainous locality.
 
Tourists can start the travel from Quan Ba district and go up to Meo Vac, the highest area of the plateau. Scientists have discovered many relics which produced a stir in the world geology sector. The milestone seams here with the thick of up to 4,000 metres have not ever been found in any region in South East. The found fossils showed the appearance of organism on the plateau 500 million years ago. According to international scientists, there are only five moments when species were extinct, two of them were found on ancient fossils in Dong Van plateau. These discoveries are important for the research of shaping process of the earth’s crust. The scientific information will bring in interesting surprises for tourists on the travel to discover the stone plateau besides natural beauties and geomorphic sceneries.     
 
After receiving UNESCO recognition of Dong Van Karst Plateau Geoparkas a member of the Global Network of National Geoparks (GGN), Ha Giang held ceremonies to congratulate the event. A festival on the stone plateau was organized with the participation of representatives from many provinces, cities nationwide and friends from foreign countries, international organizations. The festival namely “Dong Van Karst Plateau concentrated a series of various cultural activities such as boat race on the Nho Que River, rope-climbing to discover caves, Ma Le horse racing or walk to Vu Tien mountain couple, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.as a member of the Global Network of National Geoparks (GGN), Ha Giang held ceremonies to congratulate the event. Come to the land, tourists will be enraptured with uniqueness of the stone plateau such as the Ma Pi Leng mountain pass, which is 2,000 meters high than the sea level. This is the border area between Dong Van district and Meo Vac district as well as divides up climate zones. Standing on the pass, tourists feel touch clouds, look at the Nho Que river like a white yarn meandering the valley.  
 
Under the valley, terraced fields spread out with colors of grass-green and citrine, hugging each mountain. In the distance there are houses with rock fence, cows grazing and roads like huge pythons linking villages together. 
 
The land ever disheartened anyone who had not yet been there with rumors such as “supernatural forest, malarial environment”, strange names like Cong troi (heaven gate), Bac Sum mountain slope. Nowadays, the land is listed among landscapes needed to sightsee in the world. The land is home to fantastic stone wastelands like Sang Tung, Can Chu Phin, Lung Pu. Emerging the flora carpet as green as grass are rocky cliffs with various shapes, particularly the Khau Vai stone field.
