Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on the first day of the New Year cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Can Tho International Airport, which is capable of serving up to five million passengers a year.
Covering 20,750 sq. m in the Mekong delta city of Can Tho, the new terminal meets required standards of the Air Transport Association (IATA).
Can Tho International Airport has undergone two renovation phases, with the first one carried from September 2005, and the second one kicked off in 2008. It now becomes one of the country’s four biggest airports.
This year, some 211,000 passengers traveled through the airport, or a year-on-year increase of 39 percent.
Addressing the opening ceremony, PM Dung said that the newly upgraded airport will open great opportunities for Can Tho City in particular and the southwestern area in general to make fast and sustainable development. (VGP)
