Signing JV Contract for Component B, Hai Phong Int’l Container Terminal

On December 10, 2013, at Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port, Saigon Newport Corporation hosted a solemn ceremony to sign a joint venture contract for Component B of Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HICT).
 
HICT is a key deepwater port project in the north of Vietnam. Funded by Japanese ODA capital, the 130.74-ha port project consists of Component A (invested by the Vietnam Maritime Administration) and Component B (originally invested by Vinalines in cooperation with Japanese Molnykit Company in the form of public - private partnership - PPP). At the direction of the Prime Minister, on January 4, 2013, Saigon Newport Corporation replaced Vinalines to undertake the Component B, which is covers a total area of ​​56.99 ha (44.99 ha of yards and wharfs and 12 ha of front water surface), has 750-metre long piers and 14-metre deep berths. HICT is capable of receiving container vessels of 100,000 DWT. The port can handle 1.1 million TEUs a year. The facility is expected to be put into official operation in mid-2017.
