Hai Duong Water Co., Ltd: Modernising Water Supply System

 

In 2010, only 26 per cent of population had access to clean water, while the demand was urgently growing. Water supply investment in the countryside required huge capital while the efficiency was not as high as in urban zones.

 

Mr Nguyen Van Doan, President and CEO of the company, said: “The company sought every feasible measure to bring clean water to all residents in the province. The company always defined its responsibilities as not only improving water service quality for customers, but also providing all people with access to clean water in the earliest time.”

 

To accomplish this goal, the company advised the provincial government to protect water resources and provide water in an effective, sustainable manner. The company proposed building large-capacity water plants with input from large rivers with strong current flows to provide clean water for a large area. This approach will save a lot of investment costs in comparison with building many small ones for the same purpose. The management of water facilities and water quality will be easier. At the same time, the company focused on upgrading the capacity of water plants and expanding networks. The company invested hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong to construct clean water projects in four district towns, namely Thanh Mien, Gia Loc, Thanh Ha, Minh Tan and Phu Thu (Kinh Mon) and their surrounding areas.”

The proportion of people with access to clean water in Hai Duong province has increased year after year. In 2013, the rate was 69 per cent. The company targets to raise the rate to 83 per cent in 2014 and 100 per cent at the end of 2015.

 

Particularly, the company has proactively optimised all resources, implemented many water supply development investment projects, applied solutions and programmes to prevent water loss, creatively applied advanced science and technology to modernise the water supply system, catch operational and management levels of developed countries in the world. He said “With the goal of comprehensive innovation, effective management, safety quality and sustainable development, the company researched and successfully fabricated water flow, volume and pressure monitoring equipment in 2011 and installed it in all water supply systems. It has also applied information technology and communications, installed specialised system software, improved equipment control software and system user management software, collected and analysed information, and built websites to serve end users. The company has gradually modernised water supply management and operation levels to ensure the quality, safety and saving of production costs, and effectively implemented water loss and revenue loss prevention programmes."
