The resolution of the 20th Thai Binh Provincial Party Congress (2020 - 2025 term) sets the goal of “developing tourism into an important economic sector of the province”. The encouraged implementation of large-scale modern projects, in line with the sustainable development strategy together with the creation of typical tourism products, will soon make Thai Binh an attractive destination.

Attracting strategic investors

Thai Binh has great potential for tourism development. The province has a 54-km coastline with many large beaches with natural sandbanks, mangrove forests and wetland nature reserves. The province has many relics, festivals, arts performances and unique folk games; many traditional craft villages, many OCOP producers; and many producers of flowers, ornamental plants, fruit trees and aquaculture. These are great advantages for developing community tourism and experiential travel.

To tap local potential advantages, the province has focused on inviting and attracting investors. Up to now, many strategic investors have researched and proposed large-scale projects in key areas. Investors have planned construction for Con Vanh - Con Thu urban area - service - resort - golf course project in Tien Hai district. Hung Thinh Phat Group is studying to sponsor the planning of an eco-tourism - resort - entertainment area project on tidal flats in communes Thuy Hai and Thuy Xuan communes and the mangrove forest in Thuy Truong, Thuy Hai and Thuy Xuan communes. A consortium of Onsen Fuji Group Joint Stock Company and Thanh Thuy Hot Spring Water Joint Stock Company is investing in a chain of three projects: Wyndham Lynn Times Thai Binh high-end hot spring resort - urban area, Tien La tourism - urban area and Hung Ha commercial hot spring service - urban area. Flamingo Holding Group Joint Stock Company is investing in Bac Thai Binh hot spring urban, commercial, service and eco-tourism project.

Mr. Truong Van Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thai Binh province, said: The most desirable thing for the province is now to have capable investors to carry out large tourism development projects to provide tourist areas, destinations, accommodation facilities, art performance venues, and quality and attractive entertainment facilities. This approach helps diversify tourism products, especially distinctive and attractive tourism products, to extend the length of stay of visitors and woo many domestic and foreign tourists to Thai Binh. Hopefully, investors which are currently researching, proposing and implementing projects will solve these difficulties, lift Thai Binh tourism to a new level of development, and truly make an important economic sector of the province in the coming time.

Developing tourism products

The approved Thai Binh Provincial Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, continues to follow the spirit of the resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress (2020 - 2025 term), stating: Developing tourism into an important economic sector. The province will focus on tourism development in line with local potential, strengths and planning; build a synchronous and modern tourism infrastructure system; attract investment resources and effectively solve labor, employment and social security issues; create breakthroughs in tourism development, promote other economic sectors; actively contribute to socioeconomic development, national defense and security.

Accordingly, Thai Binh has focused on developing tourism space by identifying Thai Thuy and Tien Hai districts as core areas and driving forces due to their important locations and their outstanding tourism potentials and resources. Thai Binh City is the economic, political, social and cultural center of the province and the starting point that connects spatial development directions while districts are supporting centers that connect and build tourism routes and provide other tourism services.

With potential advantages of a long cultural history and natural resources, Thai Binh is developing marine tourism, eco-tourism, spiritual tourism and community tourism, experiential tourism products. In particular, spiritual tourism is considered potential tourism with a lot of strengths. With nearly 3,000 ancient cultural institutions, notably two special national relics - Keo Pagoda in Duy Nhat commune (Vu Thu district) and Tombs and Temples of the Tran Dynasty in Tien Duc commune (Hung Ha district), spiritual tourism in Vu Thu, Hung Ha and Quynh Phu, the province attracts a lot of domestic and foreign tourists to visit, sightsee, and worship.

Community tourism and experiential travel are being developed in the province. These products are mainly based on agricultural production to serve tourists. On August 24, 2022, the Provincial People's Committee approved the project on agricultural and rural development associated with tourism in Thai Binh province in 2022 - 2025 and to 2030. The project aims to utilize strengths of agriculture, craft villages, culture and ecological environment in the province to improve the quality of material and spiritual life of rural people; effectively tap resources to develop Thai Binh's agricultural and rural tourism into a priority choice for tourists; build and maintain the brand of Thai Binh agricultural products in the domestic and international markets through tourism activities.

In recent years, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has organized many farm trips and seminars to introduce the province's outstanding tourist destinations to large and reputable domestic travel companies. At the same time, the department has developed a variety of environmentally friendly, well-branded, highly competitive tourism products, associated with preserving and promoting cultural values. It has also exploited agricultural and rural production areas, OCOP products, local specialties and traditional craft villages placed in the overall tourism development landscape to create highlights in the regional tourism map.
