Dong Nai has achieved dramatic growth in output and value in recent years. The industry sector makes up a significant part of the economic structure. Food processing, the spearhead industry of the province, accounts for 25.4 percent, followed by garment-footwear (24.2 percent), chemical industry and rubber (11.1 percent), mechanical industry and electronic equipment (10.8 percent), and metallurgy (9.9 percent)
Together, industries grew 16-22 percent in 2006. Industries such as footwear, paper products, mining, construction material production, wood processing, bamboo and wooden products, and printing obtained especially high growth. Total industrial production value reached VND51,794 billion in 2006, increasing 21.6 percent compared with 2005.
Agricultural product processing is a strong participant in many economic sectors. Commodities include seasoning powder, soft drink, seafood processing and coffee, from enterprises receiving foreign direction investment, also achieved high growth because they have both local and overseas markets.
Garment and footwear are very strong exports. In recent years the two sectors have developed their markets and obtained growth of 23.6 percent. Enterprises producing clothes in Dong Nai also gained high growth (34 percent) because of increasing demand from export outsourcing markets in America, EU and some ASEAN countries, as well as new companies such as Pie Shine Company, Jer Mat Co, Wonder Co and Watabe Wedding Co. Leather processing growth reached 35.5 per cent because big firms such as Nike signed contracts for providing material with Viet Minh Co, Pouchen, Chang Shin, Tae Kwang and Lac Cuong Footwear Co.
The electronics industry has the advantage of exports. Although it typically only assembles radios and televisions, device production is developing for high technology products such as LCD televisions, Plasma and digital products.
Wood processing is still low in the sector structure, however, recently its output has increased dramatically
[SLG1] . Due to increasing demand for beds, wardrobes and tables from America, the EU and some countries in Asia, sales rose considerably. In addition, Dong Nai has development potential because of available materials for the rubber and chemical industries.
Dong Nai is aiming for 19.5 per cent growth in industry this year, with stable industrial development. The province will continue calling big economic groups with technology, and market and investment capital to invest in high technology and high value products such as the mechanical industry, electronic component production, information, and telecommunications to develop local industry and use local resources.
