Southern Tay Ninh province sets target to export 1,000 tons of cashew nuts to the U.S., EU and China from now to the end of 2007 to bring the total shipment volume for the whole year to 7,000 tons, local media reported.
The province has so far this year exported nearly 6,000 tons of cashew nuts worth US$24.5 million to the three markets, up 31.3 per cent on year in volume and 35.8 per cent in value, respectively.
The province has nine companies involved in processing and exporting chase nuts with the combined capacity of 10,000 tons a year. They had to buy about 20,000 tons of raw cashew nuts from Laos, Cambodia and Brazil.
Vietnam, the world's cashew nut exporter, is expected to ship between 135,000 and 140,000 tons of cashew nuts valued at US$600 million this year, up 6.5 per cent on year in volume term and up 11.20 per cent in value term, said Nguyen Duc Thanh, chairman of the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas).
