Vietnam-Iraq JV Opens US$12 Mln Rice Processing Plant in Can Tho

Rice Processing and Exporting JV, jointly established by Vietnamese and Iraqi companies, December 8 broke ground the construction of a rice processing plant costing US$12 million in Mekong Delta Can Tho city’s Thot Not district.
 
The Vietnam Northern Food Corporation holds a 45 per cent stake in the joint venture and the balance was made by the Iraq-based Cereal Commercial Company.
 
The plant, installed with modern facilities by Long An province-based Lamico, has initial capacity of 120,000-130,000 tons per year.
 
“The plant showed the closer tie between Vietnam and Iraq in general and potential in rice industry in particular,” said Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development at the opening ceremony which also attracted Iraqi Minister of Trade and many other local companies.
 
The Rice Processing and Exporting JV was established in 2001. (Vietnam Agriculture)
