HCM City Sets up Int'l Marine Cooperation Draft for 2008-2020

People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has already submitted its overall marine development draft for the 2008-2020 period to the Ministry of Investment and Planning, with suburban Can Gio and Nha Be districts being targeted.
 
The overall draft, which includes 22 projects focusing on fisheries and forestry development, natural disaster prevention, defense and security enhancement, salt production and infrastructure improvement, will be carried out from 2008 to 2020.
 
The city will pour investment into setting up Can Gio aquatic resource protection station, improving infrastructure for Can Gio mangrove forest management and development, setting up fresh water programs in Can Gio and Nha Be districts in addition to a brackish water aquatic breeding farm.
 
Developing fisheries for 2006-2010 period and Can Gio ecological-tourism area, and establishing Hiep Phuoc industry-seaport area covering 3,600 hectares are also included.
 
The overall draft, especially, maps out the movement of Ba Son shipyard and Saigon seaport in 2010 and the establishment of Cat Lai port in 2010 and Hiep Phuoc port in 2012.
 
However, estimated investment for the giant draft has not yet been made available. (Vasep)
