Vietnam is forecast to earn US$10 billion-US$10.5 billion from apparel exports next year, compared with the target of US$9.5 billion this year, according to the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex).

Currently, the textile and garment sector obtains an annual growth of 20 per cent in export turnover, the group said.

According to the General Statistics Office, as of the end of 2007, no product had reached export turnover of US$10 billion. Last year, the two goods, crude oil and apparel, hit the highest export earnings of US$8.5 billion and US$7.8 billion, respectively.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Bui Xuan Khu asked the sector to make efforts to earn an export turnover of US$11.5 billion in 2009 to surpass crude oil to take the lead. (Vietnam & World Economy)
