The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has set a plan to mobilize US$350 million from the world for agricultural development in 2009.
Of the sum, some US$200 million will be sourced from official development assistance (ODA) and US$150 million from foreign direct investment (FDI).
The investment will be pumped into agricultural projects that the MARD approved in 2008.
Next year, the ministry will also continue negotiations on tariff and non-tariff, agricultural services, and free trade establishment between ASEAN countries and South Korea, Japan, India, and Australia in order to help Vietnamese companies expand outlets for their agricultural, forestry and seafood products.
According to the MARD, Vietnam will need a total of VND11 trillion (US$666 million) to develop agricultural next year. (Vietnam Economic Times)
