State-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) has recently submitted a plan to raise electricity price between 2009 and 2012 in line with the market mechanism to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) for consideration.

Under the plan, EVN has mapped out four proposals for the average retail power price in the period.

In the first proposal with profit of 5 per cent in power generation and 3 per cent in power transmission, EVN wants to hike power price from current VND868.73 (5.26 U.S. cents) per kWh by 17 per cent to VND1,017 (6.16 U.S. cents) per kWh in 2009, VND1,087 (6.58 U.S. cents) per kWh in 2010, VND1,088 (6.59 U.S. cents) per kWh in 2011, and VND1,146 (6.94 U.S. cents) in 2012.

In its second solution, the group proposed to raise power price by 18 per cent next year if it nets profit of 7 per cent in power generation and 5 per cent in power transmission.

Meanwhile, with profit of 7 per cent in both power generation and power transmission in the third proposal; and 10 per cent and 7 per cent, respectively, in the fourth solution, EVN wants to hike electricity price by 19.57 per cent and 20 per cent in 2009, respectively.

Based on the average retail power price, the group proposed to hike the price by 15.5 per cent for production sector; by 16 per cent for administrative offices; and by 16 per cent at peak hours for service traders. (Labor)
