As many as 169 foreign companies and 39 domestic businesses are taking part in Plastics and Rubber Vietnam 2008 exhibition which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 21.
The foreign participants come from 20 countries and territories around the world.
The three-day event will showcase plastic materials, accessory products, machines and equipments for manufacturing and processing for the rubber and plastic industries.
Plastics & Rubber Vietnam 2008, jointly held by the VCCI Exhibition Services Company, the Bangkok Exhibition Services Company and Messe Dusseldorf Asia, aims to help Vietnamese businesses seek investments and acquire advanced technologies for their production.
Austria, Italy, Singapore, Germany, Taiwan and Thailand have their own pavilions at the exhibition.
A seminar on plastic industry, meetings and exchange activities will be held during the event to help Vietnamese firms seek opportunities for cooperation and sign economic agreements with foreign partners.
Some 6,500 visitors are expected to visit Plastics & Rubber Vietnam 2008.
Vietnam’s plastics industry sees stable annual growth of 15 per cent-20 per cent, according to Le Duong Quang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.
The plastics industry is set to bring in US$1 billion from exports in 2010. To reach the goal, Vietnam needs to invest US$2.5 billion-US$3 billion in plastic processing between 2005 and 2010, said Erhard Wienkamp, President of Messe Dusseldorf Asia in Vietnam.
According to the Vietnam Plastics Association, the industry will make total revenues of US$5 billion in 2008, up 26 per cent on-year, including US$950 million from exports, compared with US$710 million in 2007. (VNA, Saigon Times Daily)
