Hai Phong Shipbuilding and Manufacturing Company Limited (Lisemco) reported to make total revenue of VND345.247 billion in the first seven months of 2008, surpassing the full-year target. The seven-month profit was already 115.78 per cent higher than the annual target. This success is the result of endless working effort of the Lisemco’s workforce.
“Crossing the sea”
Several years ago, hardly anyone imagined that Vietnam could export equipment for super-heavy mechanical products to other nations. For Lisemco, following the success in supplying equipment for Na Duong thermal power plant and the national conference centre, the sea-crossing started.

In 2001, many international partners, especially Japanese, came to Lisemco to survey the production capacity. Recalling these days, General Director Tran Viet Khanh said: “Absolutely careful Japanese persons initially placed small orders. We knew that if we skipped the initial small orders, we would erase future long-term bigger deals.” In 2006, giant firms like Sumitomo, Mitsubishi and Nippon Steel ordered to buy 20,000 tonnes per annum, which was exported to other nations.

Then, based on the company’s equipment, production capacity, corporate governance and workmanship, many other customers like Densit, FL Smith and KTZ came to Lisemco. The year 2007 was regarded a busy and effective year for the company. The contract with KTZ alone had a value of up to US$45 million. Many high-valued projects and contracts meant that Lisemco had to renovate technologies and increased production capacity. To meet these requirements, Lilama Corporation, the holding company, allowed Lisemco to conduct intensive and extensive investments. Many modern apparatuses like cranes with lifting capacity of 30 tonnes and 150 tonnes and portal cranes had been installed in production factories.

From local to foreign customers
With modern and synchronous technologies and production workshops, Lisemco has won the trust of customers. The Lisemco - Lilama brand name has made presence in many countries in the world like India, Australia, Japan, the US and Europe.

In 2008, in addition to traditional customers, the company has signed contracts with many new ones, including Doosan Babcock Energy (United Kingdom), Siemens, KE - Karanbau Eberswalde AG, NEM and Polysius (Germany) and Macgregor (Finland). Many high-valued contracts were signed, including US$11 million with Nem - Ras Laffan Project and US$20 million with Macgregor.
General Director Tran Khanh Viet added: “Lisemco holds three advantages: package designing, large piers (Lilama Port) for building ships with loads of 5,000 tonnes, and understanding of separate partners.” This helps affirm the Lisemco - Lilama brand name on the market.
