P&O Ports, a world leading container terminal operator, has signed a business co-operation contract with the Tan Thuan Industrial Park Dvelopment Company (IPC) for the building and operation of a container port in Ho Chi Minh City.

The port, located on the west bank of the Soai Rap river, within the Hiep Phuoc industrial park, has a total area of 2,000 hectares. It is ten kilometres south of Ho Chi Minh City. The project, valued at US$224 million, consists of quays on an area of 1,000 square metres. Its capacity is estimated at 1.5 million TEU containers. P&O Ports will hold 80 per cent of the Container Saigon Premier’s stake and the remaining 20 per cent belongs to IPC. Duration of the project is 43 years.

Phan Hong Quan, general director of IPC said that the implementation of the project matched the Government’s master plans for port development in the key southern economic region, meeting the estimated growth of the city’s international trade exchange.
