Northern mountainous Lao Cai province has already kicked off construction on a wood processing factory worth VND95 billion (US$6 million) in Bao Thang district’s Xuan Giao commune.
Covering on an area of 3.3 hectares and being equipped with Taiwanese and German technology, the factory is designed to have total capacity of 350,000cu.m per year.
The factory is also expected to generate US$10-12 million in annual export turnover with most of products exported to the EU, Japan and US, the three biggest importers of Vietnamese woodworks.
Once fully operational in 2007 when the first phase construction completes, the factory will create 450 jobs. Construction on the factory is now carried out by Lao Cai Forest Development Joint Stock Company.
In other news, Lao Cai’s forest is now able to supply more than 17 million cu.m of timber a year, including 16.8 million cu.m from natural forests and 369,000 from planted ones. Vietnam Economic Times
