Around 310 companies will take part in the Ho Chi Minh City International Furniture and Handicraft Exhibition, or Expo 2008, from October 8 to 12, the Saigon Times Daily reported.
They will showcase their latest products at 847 booths at the event at the HCMC International Exhibition and Convention Center, 446 Hoang Van Thu Street, Tan Binh District.
Nearly 340 domestic and foreign wooden furniture producers registered to attend the exhibition with 928 booths. But the organizing committee confined the number of booths to 847 due to limited display space, said Tran Vinh Nhung, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, the organizer of the event.
Half of the participating companies are interior furniture and handicraft exporters who will occupy two-thirds of the booths.
There will be 11 foreign companies attending the event with 36 booths.
The event will feature a number of seminars which will be held by the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCMC (HAWA) and the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The sixth annual exhibition is a key national trade promotion event for the woodworking industry.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam exported US$1.822 billion worth of woodwork products, up 20.5 per cent on year; and US$383 million from handcraft products, up nearly 5 per cent, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). (STD, GSO August Edition)
