Truss Rite Vietnam Co. Ltd: Products against Time

At present, materials used in the construction of roof and floor systems are varied and numerous. A challenge faced by the construction market is the lack of standards to measure the quality of products, particularly at the highest level. Meanwhile, the demand for construction materials is soaring. ViB Forum reporter had an interview with Mr Andrew Maxwell Carr, General Director of Truss Rite Vietnam Co., to learn more about this issue as well as products of the company.

Could you explain the establishment and development of Truss Rite Vietnam Co. Ltd?
Truss Rite was established in 1990 in Melbourne, Australia. Truss Rite Vietnam was launched in May 2007. I have been involved in the timber industry for over 23 years and have been in the prefabricated roof truss, wall frames and floor truss industry for over 17 years. Our Group President, Mr Greg Philips, has been in the building and development market for 48 years and is the co-founder of Villa World, one of Australia’s major property developers. We visited Vietnam for the first time at the invitation of our friends in the country. After many visits to explore and study the market, we saw an opportunity to develop the structural timber industry in Vietnam, and we decided to set up a production facility here.

Truss-Rite Vietnam uses proven technologies and manufacturing methods and uses structural timber products sourced from Australia. All timber products used are treated to resist termites and wood eaters. We employ a team of designers that can create a variety of innovative designs for customers to choose, and all of our products supplied in Vietnam meet international standards.

What is the main difference between Truss Rite Vietnam and other domestic and foreign peer companies?
We are very proud to be the leaders in the introduction of prefabricated timber product for construction in Vietnam and do this by employing and developing the skills of a local Vietnamese workforce. Our roof trusses and PosiStrut floor truss systems are versatile and easy to install for residential construction but also well suited for agricultural, commercial and public projects. We have invested significant time and money to train local Vietnamese employees in each facet of our business including design, manufacture and installation of prefabricated timber products.

We have been most pleased with the hardworking ethics and enthusiasm of our staff, who have been quick to the acquire skills required for this new technology. We are very proud of our staff and have been very pleased and appreciative of their effort and progress.

We are providing products for many leading construction companies in Vietnam. We expect this to grow and result in more foreign interest in Vietnam. Skills development of local Vietnamese employees is resulting in knowledge of new and emerging construction methods and also in the use of high-level design software. In addition, we regularly welcome students from various universities to our factory so they can learn more about the timber and prefabrication industry.

What is the goal and strategy of Truss Rite Vietnam in the future?
We have many projects underway in Hanoi, An Giang, Hau Giang, Ben Tre, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Qui Nhon, Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, Ho Chi Minh City and other localities.
We have recently begun exporting our products and services to the Philippines, and we are expecting a significant growth in this market.

Personally, I am very proud of the presence of Truss Rite Vietnam and its employees. We have been successful with combining technology and materials from Australia and skills and labour in Vietnam to create an exciting and successful industry. I am confident that this success will continue and offer further opportunities for our company growth.

What is your opinion about the applicable policies in commercial operations in Vietnam?
We have received a lot of positive support from authorities at all levels. In my personal experience, foreign investors need to have a good understanding of Vietnamese laws and requirements. We have worked closely with the local authorities since we started operations here. Vietnam and Australia have established good relationships and I believe that the two countries will continue their achievements in trading, investment and others.
