On the occasion of the First Vietnam Entrepreneur Forum to be held in Paris in November 2008, Phan Thanh, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association in HCMC (OVIBA) has an interview with the Vietnam Business Forum.
Will OVIBA join the forum?
After receiving invitation from the organising board, I informed the association’s members of the news and encouraged them to attend the event. However, only Vietnamese Overseas who have not run any business in Vietnam and local enterprises who want to seek partners are really subjects of the forum. For OVIBA member, who have run business in Vietnam for years and understand thoroughly about Vietnam Law take less interest in the forum.
The forum aims to introduce policies and investment opportunities in Vietnam for businesses overseas. It will offer Vietnamese businessmen a chance to exchange viewpoints and experience as well as discuss measures to increase cooperation. Will the forum succeed?
The forum is big effort from the organising board. This is the first time Vietnamese businesses all over the world are offered a chance to exchange viewpoints and know more about Vietnam’s investment environment as well as its policies on investment and business activities. If Vietnamese businesses in the US, Australia, Canada,… attend the event, the forum will lure more attractive for Vietnamese businesses overseas. Because all members of the organising board are Vietnamese French, people think it is the forum of Vietnamese businesses in France. The number of Vietnamese businesses attending the forum will be a decisive factor to the success of the event. Whatever the forum is, the forum is a good chance for all Vietnamese businesses as well as Vietnam’s investment and trade promotion.
What advices would you like to give to Vietnamese businesses overseas?
I want to emphasise that Vietnam is opening its market and always create favourable conditions for Vietnamese overseas to return home. Notably, the country’s investment environment has much improved with favours for investors. Despite difficulties and challenges, Vietnam is on the process of industrialisation and modernisation and is an attractive destination for investors. I wish the forum every success!
