An Giang Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion Centre was established under the Decision No.972/QD-UB-NV by the People’s committee of An Giang province on June 7, 2004. Its function is to carry out the directions of the People’s committee of An Giang province in trade, tourism and investment development, and help the People’s committee monitor and update changes of economic, cultural and social situation and demand for trade and tourism development.
For trade promotion: The centre has conducted research into domestic and foreign markets expansion by catching market information, assisting and consulting enterprises to market their products, open branches and representative offices and set up distribution networks in home and foreign markets; supplying trade promotion services including fairs, commercial advertisement, exhibitions, workshops and surveys.

For tourism: The centre is the realization of the province’s tourism potential in compliance with its target of participating in the National action plan on tourism development and investment project on developing tourism in Mekong sub-region of the General Department of Tourism. Accordingly, the centre focuses on boosting investments into infrastructure development and tourism business on the basis of a joint plan, introduction and maximisation of the province’s advantages including cultural festivals, relics and natural potentials to make products which are typical of the province. In addition, the centre supplies high-quality and sustainable tourism services in connection with environmental protection and national culture preservation.

Regarding investment, the centre regularly updates information about demand for investments into fields such as the economics, culture and society of the province (except for Industrial parks and economic zones in Tinh Bien and Vinh Xuong border towns), and searches for information about investors, acts as a broker supplying, popularising, inviting and connecting domestic enterprises to foreign partners.

In the first 9 months of 2005, the centre informed the province’s enterprises about the contents of 20 home and foreign fairs and exhibitions organised by the Ministry of Trade, Trade Promotion Department, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ho Chi Minh City Trade Promotion Centre and some other foreign organisations. The centre along with businesses directly participated in and sent products to 7 domestic fairs and 2 foreign ones and gave assistance to 42 enterprises directly taking part in those fairs. At these fairs, products from An Giang attracted the attention of many consumers, trade partners as well as the press inside and outside the province; therefore, there have been an increased number of requests for information about the enterprises. In several new markets, enterprises have opportunities to exchange experiences, seek trade cooperation, sign contracts and open agencies. In the coming time, the centre will introduce some enterprises to accompany delegations surveying markets and participating in fairs held in Thailand and European countries including German, France and Spain.
The centre also provides information, and in company with enterprises took part in more than 15 seminars and meetings with foreign delegations of businesses organised by the Ministry of Trade, Trade Promotion Department, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Can Tho VCCI in coordination with foreign associations and organisations. Apart from the aim of establishing relations with General Consulates and Departments of Commercial affairs of countries, the centre also created conditions for enterprises to study foreign markets and contact foreign counterparts, thus enhancing their awareness and professional expertise.

In addition, the centre organised further training courses in promotion to raise the ability of the specialised executives and business leaders and provided them with basic knowledge of international economic integration, project management skills and competitiveness improvement.
