“The Vietnamese security equipment market is still open,” said Mr. Tran Trong Vinh, Director of Asian Professional Security Association (APSA) and President of Silver Sea Security Company.
Huge potentiality
Vietnam has a small natural area with complicated long borderline. This geographical characteristic requires high demand for security equipment to protect border-sharing areas. Besides, economic, politic and social activities also need security equipment.
Mr. Daniel Lim, Marketing Director of Bosch Security Systems Asia Pacific, said the Vietnamese security market spent some US$90 million in 2007, in which security equipment accounted for some 40 per cent. This figure was seven times greater than two years earlier. The market is forecast to develop further in coming years. Security devices include surveillance cameras, alarming systems, fire alarms, metal sensors, luggage scanners, door bells and satellite positioning systems.
The security market in Vietnam consists of two components: Civil purposes and military purposes. The security equipment for the armed force is owned by the State. Although the number of projects is small, the project value is very big. There are very few big civil security projects. The civil demand has boosted up the market in recent years.
The security and safety requirements are put at higher levels at airports, seaports, energy projects, national projects and national defence projects. In November 2007, the Ministry of Transport submitted to the Government the amended plan for airport development until 2020 and with vision to 2030. Accordingly, by 2020, Vietnam will operate 26 airports, including 10 international airports and 16 domestic airports. In addition, energy projects like electricity, oil and gas projects also need security devices.
Many civil projects spend much on security and safety equipment such as banks, commercial centres, supermarkets, domestic and foreign-owned enterprises.
Big companies need camera systems and employee card systems to manage the workforce. Besides, they also have a high demand for alarming system, fire alarms and asset protection devices.
