Nghe An province has an area of nearly 16.500km2 (the largest in the country), 84 percent of the area (accounting for half of the 20 administrative units) is a mountainous area in the Southeast economic zone. It is located in South Thanh Hoa-North Nghe An economic planning zone and South Nghe An- North Ha Tinh economic planning zone with high expectations, but still under construction.
More than 10,000 businesses of the
province are in need of better conditions for infrastructure. The above features reflect the province’s advantages as well as the difficulties, the rush and demands for provincial transportation.
On October 28th 2012, at Vinh airport there was an inauguration of the Vinh - Da Nang route. The opening of the route is a remarkable feat and miracle of the transport sector of Nghe An since May 15th 2010 when Nghe An opened Vinh-Hanoi route. It was calculated that the competitiveness of railway, road way and Vinh - Da Nang flight would create many new opportunities for businesses and investors to Nghe An.
In the past, when Nghe An decided to open the Vinh - Hanoi flight route, people were concerned about the determination of the provincial leaders because the people's standard of living was then very low, and the flight ticket was three times higher than the coach fare. When opening the Vinh - Hanoi flight, the province had to mobilize the entire business sector to set up a fund for the Vinh-Hanoi flight; this fund is about VND 4 billion and is expected to reach VND 7 billion. That success has affirmed the determination of the Nghe An provincial leaders when Vinh-Hanoi flight has quickly become the golden route. Now, the Vinh-Danang flight will continue to open up new opportunities for investors and businesses.
Along with the opening of new routes, Nghe An endeavors to implement key projects for transportation as part of the strategy for attracting investment. It is Vinh highway-Cua Lo route, which will connect Vinh city and Cua Lo beach with the widest section of 160m and the smallest of 72m and is considered the largest route in the northern region to date. The avenue after completion will attract a large number of tourists from Laos and northeastern Thailand and will improve Vinh City – Cua Lo to a whole new level.
Now Quynh Luu-Hoang Mai Industrial Zone is the heart of the South Thanh Hoa - North Nghe An area. When the road from the Thai Hoa to Dong Hoi is in use, the route from Dong Hoi to north-western Nghe An comprises of favorable conditions for Nghe An industrial development. Besides, the Dong Hoi Port is being invested with capital of up to VND 800 billion.
Meeting and interacting with a lot of businesses in the province, we often get a lot of expectations on investment in Cua Lo port as well as building a container port. A problem is that when the Nghi Son port is still in the process of building, businesses in the province are forced to pack and ship goods to Hai Phong which is about over 400km distant. The fund required is not small. Solving this problem, he suggested that Nghe An should invest in innovating Cua Lo, however, to turn Cua Lo port into container port, the province must demonstrate great vitality when the Southeast economic zone is filled with big projects. The government has also identified the important seaports of the country in which the port of Cua Lo can only assume the role of common container ports.
