Viettel Nghe An: Promoting Youth Power

Operating in a vast province with a very complex terrain, Nghe An Branch of military-run telecom group Viettel has to face up with numerous difficulties and challenges but it has managed to be a top telecom unit in the province. In 2010, Nghe An Viettel made atotal revenue of over VND1,000 billion (US$50 million), opening the hopes of raking in VND1,400 billion of revenues in 2011.

 

Currently, in Nghe An province, Viettel’s 2G mobile service and 3G mobile service cover 97 percent and 93 percent of the territory, respectively - the largest service coverage by a telecom company in the province. Its modern telecom infrastructure also outpaces other rivals.

 

Mr Nguyen Trong Tinh, Director of Nghe An Viettel, said: “For Viettel, human is the element that makes success of Viettel brand name.” For that reason, Viettel Nghe An always puts a premium on developing and building a responsive and devoted workforce.

 

Viettel Nghe An has 420 employees, most of whom are very young and nearly 70 percent of whom hold university degrees or higher. With youthful enthusiasm, power of self-discipline and unity, this young force has been actively contributing to the development of the branch as well as of the group as a whole.

 

The third storm in 2011 ravaged Nghe An province and isolated mountainous Ky Son district. When other telecom units had not reacted to the sudden change and provincial and district leaders were finding a way to contact with the isolated regions, Viettel’s staffs crossed strong running waters on hanging ropes to fixed broken telecom cables. With connected communication, Ky Son in particular and Nghe An in general felt more secure in the flooding season.

 

With enthusiastic and devoted young staffs, Viettel Nghe An has built a province-wide network. Improving the network quality is considered the top objective of the branch. Particularly, many attractive service packages are exclusively provided for specific groups of customers like Sea+ package for seafarers, parent and son package for families, teacher package or military personnel package. Viettel Nghe An also participates in education internet programme under which the branch provides sufficient facilities for teachers and students to access internet services. These packages reconfirm Viettel’s vanguard in creating specific service packages for different groups of users, even those with low incomes.

 

Speaking of the branch development orientation, Mr Nguyen Trong Tinh said: “In Nghe An province, the number of 3G stations is almost equal to that of 2G stations and Viettel targets to have the largest 3G coverage in the country.” With its own internal resources, Viettel Nghe An is committed to providing sufficient telecom infrastructures for any customers regardless of geographic terrains and distance."
