Vietnam’s Largest Vessel Launched in Hai Phong

Bach Dang Shipyard, a key member of the state-run Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), on March 11 launched the multifunctional Vinashin Sky in the northern port city of Haiphong.

This is the largest vessel to be launched in Vietnam with a loading capacity of 15,079 tons.

The Vinashin Sky with an estimated valued at VND192 billion (US$12.18 million) is 160.67m long, 22m wide and 10.5m high and is powered with 5,180-kW engine manufactured by Denmark’s MAN B&W.

The ship, designed by the Vinashin Design Consultancy Co. and supervised by French Bureau Veritas (BV), was transferred to the Vinashin Ocean Shipping Co, an affiliate of Vinashin.

On the same day, the northern shipwright also began construction on a 610-TEU container carrier for the Bien Dong Shipping Co, a Vinashin member.
