The central Quang Nam province has greeted as many as 800,000 foreign arrivals since the beginning of 2006, a year-on-year increase of 12.3 per cent, the local tourism department said.
The figure makes up nearly a half the total 1.7 million vacationers to the locality during the period.
In order to provide the best service for visitors in 2006 - the "Quang Nam Tourism Year" - the province invested in upgrading many hotels and restaurants. Six more hotels have been put into operation.
Located in the middle of the country, 860 km south of Hanoi Capital and 865 km North of Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Nam boasts two World Heritage Sites, namely Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Holy Land.
The province has so far attracted 168 tourism projects with combined capital of nearly $2 billion. Most of the projects, some of which are luxury venues, are located in the ancient town of Hoi An, Dien Ban district and Chu Lai Open Economic Zones.
Quang Nam has set a target of 1 million foreign visitors in 2007.
