Dong Nai Rubber Company was established in June 1975 from the merger of 12 aging plantations run by a French company. Taking over farms with old trees, obsolete factories, downgraded infrastructure and insufficient workforce, the company had to gradually restore and develop production by recruiting local and non-resident workers, opening 5 new plantations, replacing old trees, upgrading and building processing factories, transport system, electric system and public utilities.

After over 30 years, the total assets value of the company has reached VND870 billion (US$54.38 million). The firm is running a total plantation area of 36,357ha (including 31,469 ha of exploited trees and 4,887 ha of growing trees). The aggregate 30-year production output was 837,824 tonnes (50,500 tonnes in 2005 alone or 1,600kg/ha/year). In addition to the cultivation area expansion, the company also upgraded and erected 12 latex processing lines with an annual capacity of more than 45,000 tonnes.

To ensure workers, the firm built strong accommodations, roads, healthcare stations and kindergartens for them and their families.

Apart from the production front, the company annually raises funds (about VND103 million (US$6,400)) to build houses for families in difficulty. In particular, the company has pledged to provide lifetime financial support to five heroic Vietnamese mothers, each of whom receives a monthly allowance of VND300,000 (US$19) and has been offered a savings book valued VND1 million (US$63).

With its great business achievements and social contributions, Dong Nai Rubber Co. has been granted numerous noble prizes. Notably, the company was awarded the Second Labour Order and Third Labour Order in 1995 and 2004, respectively, and the People’s Army Hero Title in 2005.
