Mekong Delta An Giang province exported 502,000 tons of rice worth US$127.2 million in 2007, down by 8.4 per cent on year in volume but up by 6.1 per cent in value and making it become the biggest rice exporter in Vietnam.
Rice was also the second-largest cash earner in the province behind tra and basa catfish with US$330 million.
Neighboring Can Tho city took second position with total exported rice volume amounting to 500,000 tons by the end of 2007.
Can Tho’s companies have poured VND50 billion more into upgrading their storage capacity from 130,000 tons to 230,000 tons. (Vietnam Economic Times)
